Pete 'Big Dog' Fetters
Pete 'Big Dog' Fetters (BIO)
Pete 'Big Dog' Fetters is a full time professional bluesman. A crowd favorite on the summer concert circuit, his show combines high energy and great music that really connects and involves his audiences.
He grew up in the Midwestern US and started playing the guitar at age 13. His first influences were the rock 'n roll stars of the 60's. As he began to study the music and it's origins he discovered the blues. "I realized pretty early on that the Rolling Stones didn't write the songs I was listening to and enjoying so much." Going back into the history of it all I was introduced to Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Little Walter Jacobs, Sonny Boy Williamson and the great music that they created." The first instrument that really grabbed the young Fetters was the harmonica. "It was a fantastic sound, a swooping, wailing, powerful tone that I had to learn how to make. I remember actually practicing so long that my lips bled from being cut by the wooden hole separators in the harps I was using."
Pete started playing music professionally in 1980 in Lansing, MI. "I made the decision to make my living playing music. Although I preferred playing the blues I ended up playing whatever I could to make money. So I've been exposed to lots of different music which is great because you get to appreciate the things they all have in common, plus it's a good education. In 2000 or so Pete became infatuated with slide guitar. "Slide guitar is an extension of the harmonica playing I was doing."
Pete has released 8 CDs on his own Two Sisters Records label,
both solo acoustic efforts and electric band.
In 2006 Pete won The Detroit Blues Challenge and represented the City Of Detroit at The International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, TN in the solo/acoustic category.
Pete recently placed his song 'Midnight Walkin' Blues' on
the 2007 PBS TV series 'ROADTRIP NATION'.
He also had two of his songs 'Big Dog Boogie' and 'South From Detroit City' used on the new Shady O'Grady video game:
'RISING STAR.'
